Of Lampshades and Love – A Valentine D.I.Y

Well, Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. That means dinner dates, suits and stilettos, cuddles and whispered nothings; basically, it is the happiest day of the year for Cupid!

Now, I’m not a true romantic; I’d probably spend whatever is salvaged of the day with my family, meet a couple of girlfriends for a bridal fitting, and catch a movie or a bite to eat with the S.O. Hence, gifting is out of the question for me. But I know that some of you out there are frantically searching for the perfect gift for him/her.

You may have already picked up something great, or may have an amazing idea for what to get that would make your Valentine feel extra – loved! But for those who haven’t, here is a very simple D.I.Y gifting tutorial.

Presenting, the oh-so-simple-yet-so-gorgeous Love Lampshade or Loveshade made with a few simple items, and loads of love!

D.I.Y Lampshade - The Happy Pedestrian

I was really inspired by this idea when my gorgeous friend Hamsa made it for her fiance Timothy; just for a ‘Hi, I Love You, Bye’ kinda occassion. I think the fact that it was hand made, or rather hand – pierced just added to the near – perfection of this D.I.Y idea as a Valentine’s Day gift for him and her.

And voila! Your Loveshade is all ready for gifting!

Remember that it is best to use a thick card paper in dark shades, rather than paler shades or thinner paper. This will help in maintaining the opacity of the paper lampshade in the areas where the design doesn’t appear. Also, ensure that the design or message is printed out in the right size – neither too big nor too small.

So go ahead, try this out. Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone out there!
